TOKYO: His Eminence the 7th Kyabje Yongzin Ling Rinpoche paid his first visit to Japan to grace the 83rd birthday celebration of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and give teachings to the general public in Japan. The visit was organized by the Liaison Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama for Japan and East Asia.

On July 6, Ling Rinpoche presided over the life saving ceremony during which one hundred thousand different species of captured fish were released into a river. The ceremony was organized by the Liaison Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama for the long life of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Tibetans, Mongolians and Japanese took part in the ceremony.

Ling Rinpoche was the chief guest on the occasion of the 83rd birthday celebration of His Holiness the Dalai Lama held at Hotel Okura in Tokyo on July 7. Hundreds of guests joined the celebration.

On the same day, Ling Rinpoche gave a one-day teaching to the Japanese public on Eight Verses of Training the Mind by Geshe Langri Thangpa at Gokokuji Temple in Tokyo.

On the morning of July 8, Ling Rinpoche gave a public teaching on Ethics Beyond Religion. In the afternoon, Rinpoche conferred Avalokiteshwara initiation.

At the invitation of Potala College, a Tibetan Buddhism and Culture Centre, Ling Rinpoche gave a public talk on Lamrim, The Great Treatise on the Stages of the Path to Enlightenment to a packed hall.

On July 10, Ling Rinpoche pad a visit to Mongolian Culture Centre.

On July 11, Rinpoche visited the Liaison Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and he was welcomed by the staff of the office. Representative Mr Lungtok explained the background of the office, while Rinpoche offered a collection of Lamrim scriptures to the office. Later in the afternoon, Ling Rinpoche returned to India.

His Eminence the 7th Kyabje Yongzin Ling Rinpoche was born in India on November 18, 1985. His Holiness the Dalai Lama recognized him as the reincarnation of his Senior Tutor, the 6th Kyabje Yongzin Ling Rinpoche, who passed away in 1983.

The 7th Yongzin Ling Rinpoche entered Drepung Monastic University in South India in 1990 when he was five years old and began his monastic studies there at the age of ten. Rinpoche received his Geshe degree in November 2016 and enrolled at Gyuto Tantric College in Dharamsala, India in April 2017 for a year of tantric studies that traditionally follows the completion of a Geshe degree. He completed his studies in February 2018.
