Nainital: President Dr Lobsang Sangay, on Friday, inaugurated the third edition of Kumaon literature and Arts festival titled ‘Himalayan Echoes’ in the Kumaon resort town of Uttarakhand.

The first-day event saw a curtain-raising outreach session on India-Tibet relations, which was led by author and historian Patrick French and CTA President Dr Lobsang Sangay.

During the conversation, President Dr Lobsang Sangay spoke about CTA’s ‘Thank You India initiative, which marks 60 years since His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the first Tibetan refugees came to India.

“No country has done more for Tibet and the Tibetan people than India. We have dedicated this year for India, and I have come to thank the beautiful state of Uttarakhand,” President Dr Sangay told the host of writers and artists at the Fest.

The festival featured around 30 Indian and world-renowned authors and artists, and 15 sessions on varied topics ranging from environment, conservation, wildlife, sustainable living, cinema, arts and regional literature.

CTA President later visited the Gomang Gadhan Kunkyop Ling and addressed the Tibetan community in Nainital on CTA’s ongoing projects focussed on health, education and welfare. He also discussed the Five Fifty Vision, the Tibetan electoral amendments approved by the 16th Tibetan parliament and the significance of the amendments. 

President Dr Sangay is scheduled to visit Prague, the Czech Republic on 7 October to participate in a series of talks, including the Forum 2000.
